Dr. Sophia Rado is originally from Germany, where she studied medicine at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz. Prior to moving to the Caribbean, she worked at the Department for Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology at the University Hospital in Tübingen, Germany. Love eventually brought her to the Cayman Islands, and she enrolled in the Family Medicine Programme offered by the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, Jamaica. She was awarded the Diploma in Family Medicine with Distinction in 2021 and completed her Doctor of Medicine (DM) in Family Medicine in 2023. In addition, she received an award in recognition of her outstanding academic performance at the regional DM in Family Medicine examinations 2023.
Having trained in the Caribbean, Dr Rado is familiar with the local patient clientele including beliefs of health and illness as well as local and regional resources. She is very well connected within Cayman’s healthcare sector.
Dr. Rado has previously practiced in the GP service of the Cayman Islands Health Services Authority (CIHSA). She is a firm believer in a patient-centered, holistic and evidence-based approach towards Family Medicine taking the biopsychosocial picture of both health and disease into account. It is known that Family Medicine lives through longitudinal patient-physician relationships and Dr. Rado aims to build these with her patients while treating acute and chronic conditions in all age groups. Her interests within the realm of Family Medicine include women’s health as well as preventative healthcare. Dr. Rado is available for in-person and telehealth consultations.
Dr. Rado has authored and co-authored several research articles with a focus on metabolic conditions and body fat depots that have been published in peer-reviewed journals, and has presented her research at conferences.
As a mother to young children, Dr. Rado can often be found on the beach or at the botanical garden. Her other passions include music (she is a member of the Cayman National Choir), sports (tennis, golf, running) and literature.
Dr Rado is happy to offer consultations in both English and German.
