Allergy Testing

Cayman Clinic offers certain Allergy Testing, as part of our Family Medicine services, and advise on other forms of testing (eg, skin prick test).

Allergy Testing is an important tool that helps patients identify a source of their potential health issues while also enabling our doctors to manage any associated problems. It helps to rule out allergies to certain foods or substances, such as grass, dust mites, or animals, and mitigate or reduce adverse reactions. Allergy test results must be viewed in the context of a patient’s health history.

Skin prick testing and blood testing for allergen-specific IgE are the most common ways to test for and diagnose allergies.

Allergies can cause a range of symptoms, from mild rashes and abdominal pain to life-threatening anaphylactic shock, so it is vital for the patient’s wellbeing to be able to recognise the cause as early as possible.

Cayman Clinic also tests for food intolerance, which is not the same as a food allergy. Food intolerance can cause the same symptoms as a food allergy however, food intolerances are less acute and are not life-threatening. They are often limited to the gastrointestinal tract.

Food Intolerance testing helps our doctors to manage medical issues linked to inflammation and chronic activation of the immune system. It measures individual responses to food and other substances at a cellular level, and may help reveal underlying triggers of symptoms.
